Sculpteo released their 3rd annual “State of 3D Printing, 2017” report last month, outlining how industry professionals invent, innovate, and produce products using 3D Printing. These professionals come from a range of industries, including the Consumer Goods, Industrial Goods, High Tech, Services, and Healthcare sectors.

Some takeaways from their study include:

  • The professionals’ top priorities related to 3D Printing were accelerating product development (28%), offering customized products and limited series (16%), and increasing production flexibility (13%). Out of these categories, the priority expected to grow is the priority to increase production flexibility (expected to grow to 14% by 2022).
  • The most common 3D Printing applications are “Proof of Concept” (34%), “Prototype” (23%), and “Production” (22%).
  • 90% of the professionals considered 3D Printing as a competitive advantage in their strategy.
  • 47% saw a greater ROI than last year with their 3D Printing.
  • 72% expect their spendings on additive manufacturing to increase for 2018. A considerable increase in the average budget for 3D Printing occurred this year, with the average budget being $9,504 compared to $6,132 in 2016.
